Interior
Rooms and areas
to be painted are scheduled with the customer. Large furniture is moved into
the center of the room. Wall and ceiling fixtures are removed. Furniture is
covered with plastic. Floors are covered with drop cloths.
Repaired areas are primed. Paint is applied with a brush, roller or sprayer
depending on the surface. Ceiling and walls are painted to proper coverage
and finish color. Clean cut lines between trim & walls. Only premium quality
paints are used.
Furniture is moved back to original positions. Wall and ceiling fixtures are
replaced. Floors and carpets are thoroughly vacuumed and swept. All trash is
removed. Touch-up paint is labeled and left with the customer.
Before the crew packs up their equipment, a "wet walk-around" is done to
ensure all contracted areas are painted properly. Final touch-ups are noted
on a 'punch list' & are completed before the crew leaves the final day.
STAINING:
Every wood has
a distinctive grain structure. Woods such as white and red oak, ash and
walnut have "open-pores". These woods have small holes in their surface that
give the piece a textural quality. When a stain is applied to this type of
surface, the stain tends to collect in the "open-pores" and appears darker
than the rest of the piece. Tight grained woods include maple, alder, and
cherry. These woods are smooth to the touch and can take finish evenly.
Some notes
about staining Pine
Pine is a soft
wood and can be very tricky to stain. Some pieces can be conditioned once
then stained, others may require 2 applications of conditioner, stained and
still look blotchy. To achieve uniform finish with minimal or no blotching
when stain is applied We use a mix of conditioner and sealer to hold the
wood grain. But remember if you want pine to look like oak....buy oak
Wood is
stained then sealed per spec. Varnish or Poly is applied in two coats with
sanding in between then bagged out for final buffing.

Faux Finishes
Tear offs, wood graining,
traditional marbled effects and fantasy as well. Vines, children's murals
and sports themes.
WALLPAPER REMOVAL:
Most
wallcoverings can be removed with little difficulty but of course it
can still be a coin toss. it is very difficult to estimate the cost of
removal where we might walk through, pick a spot and it peels back fairly
easy then we get on the job and there are whole sections that require
dynamite to remove. So generally we charge by the hr to remove. When we do
arrive we spray the surface with wallpaper remover. The enzyme breaks down
the starch in the adhesive, and allows the old paper to be scraped off.
Whether wet stripping or dry stripping wallcoverings, we always wash paste
from the walls. If a previously papered area is to be repainted, we
recommend a coat of oil primer to seal any adhesive that might be left after
washing. Using an oil primer eliminates peeling or flaking of the finish
coat.

Exterior
There are several varieties of paints available today for
exterior painting -- many suited especially for a particular surface.
Paints are designed to be used on certain surfaces and to perform well under
certain conditions. We can help you consider the various surfaces of your
home that will need painting
Most paints are either solvent-thinned or water-thinned and often you can
have a choice of either type for a particular surface. Alkyd and oil-based
paints are solvent-thinned. They are durable, and resist abrasion well.
Because they are solvent-thinned, clean-up of brushes, rollers, etc. must be
done with turpentine or mineral spirits.
Latex paints are water-thinned. They are often more popular because brushes,
rollers and splatters can usually be cleaned up with soap and water. Latex
paints are durable, easy to apply, and retain their color well.
Either latex or alkyd types can be used successfully provided the surface is
properly prepared. Both are available in a variety of sheens from flat to
glossy -- the lustre or sheen of a product is referred to as its gloss. A
paint with a higher gloss is preferable on exterior areas where dirt or
abrasion are a problem -- such as doors and trimwork. For high gloss trim
paints, alkyds are usually preferred. Flat paints are attractive and are
often preferred on siding, masonry and stucco.
Most wood surfaces may be topcoated with any of the exterior paints --
latex, alkyd, or oil-based.
Exterior wood stains, available in solid or semi-transparent types, are
popular for textured wood surfaces. Solid stains hide the color of the wood,
but at the same time allow the texture of the wood to show through. Semi-
transparent stains are used when more of the natural wood color is desired.
Coating exterior wood surfaces with clear coatings is a somewhat
questionable practice. Sunlight penetrates the clear coating, affecting the
wood surface. This causes the clear coating to lose adhesion and peel off.
If you decide to use a clear finish, it is necessary to set up a strict
regular maintenance program. A new clear coating should be applied before
deterioration of the old coating begins. Some clear coatings contain
ultra-violet absorbers which help to lengthen their life.
Masonry -- masonry often contains alkali, therefore a paint which is not
affected by alkali should be used. Latex paints are the usual choice for
masonry, but buy one which is designed for use on masonry.
Siding above decorative masonry surfaces -- since chalk will wash down and
discolor lower surfaces, freely chalking flat white paints should not be
chosen for these areas.
